about

Treading neck-deep in early 90’s indie rock traditions, Los Angeles-based band Twinstar never veer far from their established influences. That doesn’t mean that the band feels mired solely in the past, only that their energetic acceptance of the sounds and attitudes of their college rock forebears shares equal prominence alongside their own determinedly creative take on this genre. Twinstar make music that seems to encapsulate all of the hallowed traits of classic indie rock while also allowing for the band to put their own inspired spin on the material. And along with indie rock revivalists like Yuck and Smith Westerns, Twinstar are proving that everything is cyclical, especially musical traditions. Comprised primarily of Keith Joyner, who replaced Johnny Marr in alt-rock darlings The The, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Candelaria, the group has just released the latest single “Lost Ends” from their upcoming LP The Sound of Leaving, which is set to come out on March 26th via Commercial Suicide. The track delivers on the album’s promise of backwards-looking indie rock, replete with jangling guitars, slick vocals, and effortlessly memorable melodies.

Twinstar Los Angeles, California

Bridging a gap between the hazy days of the Wrecking Crew and cinematic 60s pop, and a current post-punk revival. It’s something you think you may have heard before, but then again—maybe you haven’t. A strange hybrid borne of the sometimes-competing musical interests of Joyner and Twinstar’s other main constant, multi-instrumentalist and co-producer, Chris Candelaria. ... more
